I just read a bit of a dramatic article; OpenAI just put the final nail in the coffin of the open World Wide Web.
While i think there are some valid points, like people are going to rely on AI for information. People are driving into lakes, metro entrances, and so on because they follow the gps navigation blindly.
I assume people are going to become more aware of problems when trusting a single source.
Search engines took the idea of a web directory site, and added logic to place the most valuable sites first.
That value changed over the years and that is why the search engines begin to feel the breathe down their neck with the AI search capabilities.
The one thing search engines have an advantage over AI is the fact you can select the source you value the most. With AI the source or sources are a black box.
Would I trust an AI to get me the cheapest ticket for something? Yes, after checking a few sites myself.
Would I trust an AI to create an travel itinerary and book all the accommodations? No. The main reason why I don't want to do that is because there are too many variables.
What do you think? Will we loose all the sites that have nuggets of information?
