Every time I started or picked up an old project, I ran into the same problem: nothing was in one place. My files were hiding in one folder, notes were somewhere else, reference links buried in my bookmarks, and my task list was in yet another app. Whenever I came back after a break, I’d end up wasting my entire first session just piecing everything together, trying to figure out where I’d left off.
So, I created a workspace where you can bring together and organize all your project materials in a single view. No more searching or switching tabs every five minutes.
What does this tool actually solve?
Let’s be real, projects are chaotic. You have references, plans, tasks, resources, and those random notes you jot down when inspiration strikes. Standard file systems and apps scatter everything, forcing you to jump between tools and constantly rebuild the big picture in your mind. This workspace keeps all your context visible and in one place, so you can just focus on moving forward.
How it works
I called this tool Ideon. It’s a self-hosted web app, and at its core is a flexible canvas where you can add different “blocks” for each part of your project:
- File blocks for documents, spreadsheets, or any project files
- Markdown blocks for notes, plans, or unfinished ideas
- Link blocks for references, resources, or that odd article you don’t want to lose
- Checklist blocks for your ongoing to-do list
Each block covers a specific aspect of your project. Instead of jumping between folders, apps, and random documents, you can finally see everything side by side in one organized space.
Why this approach?
When you can see everything lined up visually, it becomes much easier to spot connections, dependencies, and understand the current state of things. It’s not just about storing information—it’s about making sense of it instantly, without mental gymnastics.
Status and feedback
Ideon is still in its early stages (version 0.1.0), and it’s a bit rough around the edges, but it already makes my workflow much smoother. If you’re tired of managing project info across a thousand places, I think it’ll help you too.
If you try it out, I’d love to hear:
- How you would actually use it day-to-day
- What blocks or features you wish it had
- What feels confusing or awkward after you’ve used it
I read everything and always reply.
