Challenge
In this coding challenge you’re taking the role of a young software engineer working at a hot startup.
You’ve been tasked to implement a simple OCR software to extract phone numbers from an old telephone book printed in 1920 on a typewriter machine.
Thankfully the phone book was already scanned and the images preprocessed before you received them.
You are told the following details about the images:
- The images you receive are monochrome images encoded as JavaScript 2D matrixes (with just 0 and 1)
- The images are 100% free of artifacts or noise. They contain either whitespace or text
- Images contain only 1 row of text made out of digits (from 0 to 9) written using an 8x8 monospace bitmap font (provided below)
- Text can have an arbitrary scale (e.g. may be zoomed out)
You need to build an algorithm to extract data from such images. You can use the following input data to test your algorithm:
