OSERIN project details: Emergency Response, Reimagined for Nigeria
Ever tried calling for an ambulance in Lagos? If you haven’t, count yourself lucky. If you have, you know the drill: panic, confusion, and—if the stars align—help eventually arrives. That chaos was the spark for OSERIN, the emergency response platform built to make sure “eventually” becomes “immediately.”
Why OSERIN Exists
OSERIN was born out of a real-life emergency that left us scrambling for answers: Who do you call? Which hospital is closest? Does anyone even pick up? We got lucky that day, but millions of Nigerians face this uncertainty every single day, and luck shouldn’t be part of the equation.
What We Built
OSERIN connects people in distress to the nearest available ambulance and hospital instantly. No more guesswork, no language barriers, and no “please hold” while precious seconds tick by. Whether you speak English, Yoruba, Hausa, or Igbo, OSERIN’s got you. The platform works even on low bandwidth, with a simple emergency form and live Google Maps tracking so you can see help on the way in real time.
Under the Hood: Tech Stack & Bolt
- Bolt.new: Our no-code MVP hero. Bolt lets us rapidly prototype and iterate, so we can focus on solving real problems instead of wrestling with boilerplate.
- Supabase: Handles session tracking and secure storage.
- Netlify: Reliable hosting, because downtime isn’t an option.
- Google Maps + Directions API: For real-time location and ETA logic.
- Spitch + ElevenLabs: Speech-to-text magic, supporting English and local languages.
Technical Headaches & Breakthroughs
- Multilingual speech-to-text: Turns out, getting machines to understand Nigerian languages is… not straightforward.
- Real-time ambulance data: Lagos traffic is legendary, but so is the unpredictability of “real-time” tracking.
- Low bandwidth: The app had to work even when the internet barely does.
But we powered through, building a platform that’s simple, fast, and reliable—because in emergencies, fancy features take a backseat to clarity and speed.
Community, Feedback, and Lessons Learned
- Building for Nigeria means planning for unreliable networks, many languages, and a healthy dose of improvisation.
- Simplicity saves lives.
- Every conversation with real users revealed challenges we hadn’t thought of—and made OSERIN better.
What’s Next?
- Expanding language support to cover even more local dialects.
- Partnering with hospitals and ambulance services for better real-time data.
- Launching a public awareness campaign so every Nigerian knows about OSERIN.
- Open-sourcing the platform, because in an emergency, everyone deserves a fighting chance.
OSERIN isn’t just an app—it’s a lifeline, built with Bolt, and inspired by the urgent need for better emergency care in Nigeria. We’re just getting started.
