STANDARDIZE Function – Description:
- This function returns the normalized value based on the mean and standard deviation.
- You can find the standard deviation of a set of input values using the STDEV function.
- To find the mean of the given input values, use the AVERAGE function.
- The equation to find the normalized value is as follows.
Syntax:
=STANDARDIZE(x, mean, standard_dev)
Arguments Explanation:
x – The input value that you need to normalize.
Mean – It is the arithmetic mean of the distribution.
Standard_dev – It is the standard deviation of the distribution.
Note:
- If the standard_dev is less than or equal to 0 and then this function returns the #NUM! Error.
- If any of the arguments are non-numeric values such as letters and symbols and then this function returns #VALUE! Error.
Examples:
Let’s see some examples to understand this concept easily.
Example 1:
- In the below screenshot, you can be able to see the input range in Column C , and its mean value is given in Cell F2 , the standard_dev value is given in Cell F3.
Example 2:
- If the standard_dev is less than or equal to 0 and then this function returns the #NUM! Error.
Example 3:
- If any of the arguments are non-numeric values such as letters and symbols and then this function returns #VALUE! Error.
