Mentoring has been an invaluable part of my career. As a mentor, I am able to help others develop their own skills and prepare them to move to the next level in their career, but I also learn so many new techniques from those who I mentor.
At Cerner, code reviews are a mandatory part of our development process. We believe that having more than one pair of eyes on our source code at all times leads to higher overall code quality and stability. It gives more senior engineers an opportunity to teach newer engineers some different techniques, while the rookies get the opportunity to keep the senior folks in check ;)
