Sure. You can build your own FaaS using Kubeless for example. Auth0 offers WebTask, which may also be worth looking at. (webtask.io/)
In my follow up, I'll look at some of the alternatives.
My issue with Heroku is their billing strategy. As I said with AWS you pay only for the execution time.
