What I love about the Open Source Community

Open Source is just amazing isn't it? And if you aren't convinced, read on.

One of the things I love about the developer community is how willing people are to help one another. As I mentioned in the short clip above, if you've been to a hackathon you'll know what I'm talking about. If you get stuck on a piece of code, someone will help you. Even if they aren't from your team.

Learning to code from others

Developers are just good people who like to help one another learn. The Open Source community takes this to the next level. If you want to learn to code, or up your coding skills, then open source is the way to go. There are developers with incredible talents there just waiting to help others out.

I've learned on my own Twitch streams that the community is simply here to help. There have been so many times where I missed a semi-colon, or spelled something wrong, or could have written my code a lot people. The chat will speak up and help me.

Go where to talent is

This is taken to the extreme with the open source community. As I've gotten more involved with the community, I'm seeing more and more how willing people are to help. After interviewing Supabase I learned developers are there to help. Chatting to WordPress I maintainers make good-first-issues to help you get started. The more I talk to people, the clearer it is... Open Source is the way to go. It's a community that is passionate, dedicated, and welcoming.

Plus those devs are really, really good! The best and most talented programmers in the world are working on the projects you know and love. They are using their skills to build amazing software. And they're often sharing those skills. They're teaching others, showing their tricks of the trade, spreading knowledge. Simply by being around people like that you can learn a lot.

If you want to learn to code, get involved in Open Source. If you want to find a project for the language you want to learn, check out the short clip and article below. GitHub Trending Projects is your friend!

How has open source helped you? What projects have you been contributing to? Do you have an awesome open source story that changed your life?
