This is scary actually. I don't think there should be betas for these kind of software, as bugs can result in death. These kinds of software should be tested extensively, and then tested again. Betas should be tested in closed environments IMHO, not in the real world. As accidents do not only affect the driver but could harm other innocent people. I understand that some tests are difficult to test on closed environments, but delegating that testing to the users is not right.

It's not like a beta for a note taking app or a fridge, where talking cars that go >60mph on a highway.... they should have a bit more responsibility... not the engineers of course, but the company.
