We urge you to carefully read the terms and conditions of this Contest Announcement Page located here and the DEV Community Inc. General Contest Official Rules located here ("Official Rules"), incorporated herein by reference. The following contest specific details on this Contest Announcement Page, together with the Official Rules , govern your participation in the named contest defined below (the "Contest").

Sponsor does not claim ownership rights in your Entry. The Official Rules describe the rights you give to Sponsor by submitting an Entry to participate in the named Contest. In the event of a conflict between the terms of this Contest Announcement Page and the Official Rules, the Official Rules will govern and control.


Contest Name: Deepgram Hackathon on DEV
Entry Period: The Contest begins on March 10, 2022 at 5:30 PM UTC and ends on April 11, 2022 at 11:59 PM UTC (the "Entry Period")

How to Enter: All entries must be submitted no later than the end of the Entry Period. You may enter the Contest during the Entry Period as follows:

  1. Visit the Contest webpage part of the DEV Community Site located here (the "Contest Page"); and
  2. Follow any instructions on the Contest Page and submit your completed entry (each an "Entry").

There is no limit on the number of Entries you may submit during the Entry Period, but an Entrant (whether an individual, team or entity) may only win once in a particular Contest.

Required Elements for "Build" Challenge Entries: Without limiting any terms of the Official Rules, each Entry must include, at a minimum, the following elements:

  • A Deepgram account
  • An app built, using the services and general direction described in the category selected (below)
  • Code shared in a GitHub repo, containing a README
  • Code licensed with permissive license (MIT, Apache-2)
  • An overview of the app on DEV using the template provided (with all template prompts filled out)

Required Elements for "Innovative Ideas" Challenge Entries: Without limiting any terms of the Official Rules, each Entry must include, at a minimum, the following elements:

Judging Criteria: All qualified entries will be judged by a panel as selected by Sponsor as set forth in the Official Rules.

Judges will award one (1) Grand Prize winners in each of the following "Build" Challenge categories:

  • Accessibility Advocates: Use Deepgram to improve user accessibility. Think about user input, accessing media or live events, and improving understanding.
  • Analytics Ambassadors: Use Deepgram to analyze one or many pieces of audio. You may analyze a single call to help understand what happened or analyze hundreds of media files all at once.
  • Gram Gamers: Use Deepgram in a game. You may build an entirely voice or text-based game, a 2D or 3D game, or more novel playable experiences.
  • Wacky Wildcards: If it doesn’t fit into the categories above, Build an app using Deepgram that's totally out-of-the-box, random, and fun.

Judges will award one (1) Grand Prize winners in the "Innovative Ideas" Category:

Come up with an interesting use-case for Deepgram and tell us all about it via the submission template Your submission will cover the big ideas and story of what you've come up with and any mock-ups you've created in a thoughtful blog post.

Judges will also select a total of ten (10) Runner Up Prize winners without respect to any particular category/challenge.

In the event of a tie in scoring between judges, the judges will select the entry that received the highest number of positive reactions on their DEV post to determine the winner.

Prize(s):

The prizes to be awarded from the Contest are as follows:

Five (5) Grand Prize winners will receive:

  • $1,500 USD gift card or equivalent
  • $300 USD credit to the Forem Shop
  • Deepgram Swag Pack
  • DEV Sticker Pack
  • DEV "Deepgram Hackathon" Grand Prize winner badge
  • (approximate retail value ("ARV") $1,812 USD

Ten (10) Runner-Up winners will receive:

  • $250 USD gift card or equivalent
  • $150 USD credit to the Forem Shop
  • Deepgram Swag Pack
  • DEV Sticker Pack
  • DEV "Deepgram Hackathon" Runner-Up badge
  • (approximate retail value ("ARV") $412 USD

Participant winners (who submit a valid and qualified entry) will receive:

  • A DEV Sticker Pack
  • DEV "Deepgram Hackathon" participant badge
  • (approximate retail value ("ARV") $12 USD

Additionally, DEV will double the sticker credit prize for all participants who submit under the "Build" and "Innovative Ideas" categories with valid projects for a total of $25 to the DEV shop.

Community Engagement Challenges & Prizes

We will also be awarding limited-edition badges and for the following engagement-based challenges:

  • Leaving an encouraging comment/constructive feedback on a Deepgram Hackathon submission (Hackathon Participants and Community Members are eligible)
  • Asking a technical question related to Deepgram in the Help Thread. (Hackathon Participants and Community Members are eligible)
  • Answering a question in the Help Thread. (Hackathon Participants and Community Members are eligible)
  • Posting an update in the Community Discussion Thread. (Hackathon Participants only)

We're also randomly selecting four people, evenly distributed across the Community Engagement categories above, to win a credit worth $50 USD at the Forem Shop.


In the event that you collaborate with another person on your submission, please note that DEV will only award profile badges to those who list DEV username handles within their published, valid submission. In the event that your submission wins and was created by multiple collaborators, DEV will only fulfill the cash prize to the person who posted the submission under their DEV account.
