, here my personal reasons: the documentation and the accessibility of the GNU tool-chain! The OS is shipped with a C instruction manual for system call and good number of simple to use development tool (for free). The files architecture is simple to learn and to exploit.
All those reason are the one the made me work on Linux at first! Now I have much more reason ;)...
