Good summary and I take on your challenge. I would like to suggest another alternative to Emacs, but which still uses org-mode syntax. It's called Easyorg and I think it's much easier to use than Emacs. You can input text via a standard editor, but you also have the possibility to use a GUI and there is a powerful Org Agenda and calendar. See: easyorgmode.com/
