This really does depend on the individual being taught. I always validate the information I've just shared by asking if there was anything that confused them or they may have missed. Maybe I just suck at explaining things, but this always helps them digest the info a little better and it helps me improve the clarity at which I'm giving it. Not to mention, it helps build empathy between yourself and the person you're teaching.
Teaching is a feedback loop between two individuals and both have to work at keeping the loop going. As a student, I can usually tell when the teacher has just decided to abandon the loop and just get through the material. Teaching is mentally exhausting if it doesn't come naturally to you.
