ClearNote – Beat Procrastination with Instant Voice-to-Text Notes

Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady Submission 🦥

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady

What I Built

I built ClearNote — an ultra-lightweight, browser-based voice-to-text note-taking Progressive Web App (PWA).

It removes the friction and effort of capturing quick thoughts and ideas. Instead of opening heavy note apps and typing on a small keyboard, users can simply speak, and ClearNote transcribes their voice into clean text instantly. It saves daily time and effort for anyone who wants to beat procrastination and capture ideas on the go.

Demo

You can try out the live application directly in your browser or install it as a PWA:

Code

ClearNote is open-source and built as a web-first PWA. You can view the code and architecture on GitHub:

How I Built It

ClearNote utilizes modern web browser APIs for speech recognition combined with lightweight JavaScript to process and render text instantly. It is built as a PWA, meaning it requires no heavy downloads, works seamlessly offline, and operates across desktop and mobile devices with zero startup latency.

Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation enables creators and developers worldwide to build accessible tools without restrictive paywalls or heavy ecosystem lock-ins. By making ClearNote open-source and web-accessible, anyone can inspect, extend, or use speech-to-text productivity tools for free.

The Lazy Payoff

ClearNote eliminates the "lazy hurdle" of note-taking. Instead of postponing typing out thoughts or reminders, users can speak for 5 seconds and have a formatted note ready immediately—saving minutes of daily manual effort.
