StudyMate AI: A Smart Study Assistant for Students
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle
What I Built
I built StudyMate AI, a student-focused study assistant designed to help students save time, organize their study schedules, and learn more efficiently.
Students often spend hours organizing notes, preparing for exams, and deciding what to study next. StudyMate AI brings essential study tools together in one simple, modern web application.
Key Features
- Notes Summarizer: Helps students shorten their study notes.
- Quiz Generator: Creates practice questions based on a selected topic.
- Study Planner: Allows students to add, complete, and delete study tasks.
- Progress Dashboard: Shows daily task completion progress.
- Responsive Design: Works on desktop and mobile devices.
Who Would Pay for It?
Students, tutors, coaching centers, and educational communities could benefit from a tool like StudyMate AI. A future premium version could offer AI-powered summaries, personalized quizzes, flashcards, and advanced study analytics.
The goal is to make studying more organized, accessible, and affordable.

code
Built using:
- HTML5
- CSS3
- JavaScript
The project uses a simple frontend architecture, with no build tools required to run the current prototype.
How I Built It
I built StudyMate AI using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
HTML provides the application structure, CSS creates the responsive dashboard and visual design, and JavaScript powers the navigation, notes processing, quiz templates, task management, and progress tracking.
The current prototype uses browser-based text processing and predefined quiz templates. It does not yet connect to an actual AI model.
My next step is to integrate an open-weight language model so that students can generate more meaningful summaries and topic-specific quizzes. This would make the project a genuine open-source AI application while keeping it affordable and accessible.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Open innovation makes educational technology more accessible to students and developers.
By building StudyMate AI with web technologies and planning to integrate open-weight AI models, I can experiment, learn, customize the application, and share improvements with the community.
Open models can provide more flexibility in how AI features are deployed and customized. They also create opportunities to explore local inference, reduce dependence on a single provider, and build tools for users with different needs and budgets.
I believe learning tools should empower students rather than create additional barriers.
My Agent Session
I used AI assistance during the planning and development process to help structure the project, design the interface, and implement its JavaScript functionality.
An agent-session recording is not available for this submission. I may add a DevRelay session link here if I record one.
