I started programming in 1980. I have owned and managed Software businesses since 1989, a software/programming manager since 1986 (no this is not a resume). There is lots of 'talk' about how one language/library/method is better than another, etc. Before we go further let me quote from a management guide I read in 1988 (by an IBM employee) - 'Programmers are more concerned about saving Nano seconds than $'.

My 1st computer had 1K (1024 bytes) of Memory. At that time the (legendary) IBM/S36 had 128K RAM. We did a lot those days. My first smart phone (O2 xda) had 64MB...

I have done (CEO/President) business (and POLITICAL business) since 1989 - and yes - I still code to date.

There are many who praise a 'coffee' language over PHP (or even BASIC), for example. But there are instances where these, highly praised, programs were hacked and data stolen, etc. This same 'coffee' language adds 70% more coding overhead (read COST/$) than a 'non-university-promoted' language.

The point is, based on BUSINESS AND/OR POLITICAL agenda people promote one over the other, etc - let me be blunt: it is game to further someones agenda. For example many (junior) programmers are against the use of 'goto'. But you can't have a CPU/Assembly without GOTO/GOSUB instructions.

The Internet was in its infancy when jQuery was introduced, may be it still is in its infancy (the Internet, I mean). I first used the Internet at IBM in 1991 (I was not employed by IBM), I believe the 'browser' was 'Lynx'... today the Internet speeds are much faster and devices/computers have lots more memory. The computer I am using to type this comment has a 4TB HDD and 4GB more memory to spare with 6 different browsers and over 30 tabs open.... A 'forced' Windows-10 (God forbid) update of 8GB comes in under 5 minutes.

So, the bottom line is what it is used for - and the end justifies the means, is my opinion. Today memory and speeds are irrelevant, there are advantages and disadvantages - but today it is more about $ advantage than anything else.

The saying 'Those who can Do, those who can't teach...' has a lot of meaning in an worldwide economy where 'teaching/education' is the primary driver of economies in the G7 and catching up in other parts of the world.

Thank you.
