Email Summarizer!!

Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady Submission đŸĻĨ

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 3: Slow and Steady

So the theme is about being slow steady and lazy.... that reminded me about the emails that I had not read or gone through for the last 2 days....
and voila there was the idea!!

I made an email summarizer, which reads your emails and summarizes them into 3 Buckets (Smart Triaging):
🚨 Urgent & Action Required: Emails with explicit deadlines, direct questions, or client/manager requests.
â„šī¸ FYI / Read Later: Non-critical updates, summaries, and shipping alerts.
đŸ—‘ī¸ Noise / Clutter: Newsletters and marketing promos marked for bulk archiving.

Right now, it only works on my email addresses, as I have used Google Cloud Console to call the Gmail API, to read messages, which only allows specific email addresses to be read....

In version 2 of this website, I will add the option for the API to read and accept any email addresses, thereby fully completing this project...

Here's the link:

BriefMe - Daily Executive Email Summarizer & Triage

BriefMe is a high-performance daily email triage web application powered by Google Gemini AI and Google Identity Services. It processes daily inboxes in a single structured API call, accurately bucketing incoming correspondence into 🚨 Urgent & Action Required, â„šī¸ FYI / Read Later, and đŸ—‘ī¸ Noise / Promotional Clutter, while generating one-click polite, factual draft responses, providing direct "Open in Gmail" thread links, and calculating precise time saved.

Architecture Overview

  • Frontend: React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS v4, Lucide icons, Google Identity Services (GIS).
  • Client-Side Gmail Auth: google.accounts.oauth2.initTokenClient with read-only scope https://www.googleapis.com/auth/gmail.readonly. Ephemeral in-memory token management with zero storage in localStorage, cookies, or backend servers.
  • Gmail Message Fetcher (src/gmail.ts)
    • Queries newer_than:1d -in:sent -in:drafts -in:spam -in:trash capped at 50 messages.
    • Concurrency-limited worker pool (5 concurrent requests) with live progress indicator (Reading X of Y...â€Ļ

I build the project completely in Google AI Studio...

The Lazy Payoff

It is basically for people who don't check there emails regularly (me) and want a fast way to go through their emails...
Saves a lot of time and energy and does not require you to spend minutes scrolling through boring emails daily...

So all in all, the daily saved time adds up (imagine how much time you could save in a year! :)
Well, that's the gist of it...
See ya
