Elementor client PDF: 12 axe rules to 0, and a same-day quote band
A WordPress/Elementor freelancer often gets a client email with a failing Lighthouse or axe PDF after a theme/plugin update — and a request for a quote today. Pricing every red row as custom widget work is the trap: many failures are one site-wide setting.
This is a measured before/after on a small Elementor-style demo page. Tooling: axe-core 4.13.0 in headless Chrome (2026-10-13).
Measured result
| Before | After | |
|---|---|---|
| Distinct axe rule IDs | 12 | 0 |
| Failing nodes | 23 | 0 |
| Rough quote band | C (mixed) | cleared on demo |
Before rule IDs: button-name, color-contrast, document-title, frame-title, html-has-lang, image-alt, landmark-one-main, link-name, meta-viewport, page-has-heading-one, region, select-name.
Split the PDF before you price it
On this demo the failures split about evenly:
- ~6 site-wide / theme-shell (lang/title, viewport, landmarks/regions, heading structure, iframe title). One theme or header fix often clears a cluster.
- ~6 per-widget / content (image alt, button/select names, local contrast, unnamed links). These need a widget pass.
Quote site-wide as a small fixed band; quote residual widgets separately (or with an hourly cap). Re-run axe on staging and attach after-counts so the client sees proof.
Same-day quote shape
- Count distinct rule IDs; mark each site-wide vs per-widget.
- Price triage + site-wide pass as band A.
- Price per-widget residual as band B after you sample how many widgets inherit the pattern.
- Ship the after measurement with the invoice.
Offer shape: measured triage → quote band → residual, not "we will make Lighthouse green somehow."
Kit note
Local kit from this run included before.html / after.html, run_axe.sh, results.json, and a quote-band PDF (out/kit.pdf, 88087 bytes, sha256 starting 98db5844). Rebuild the same shape against your staging URL.
