Markdown is wonderfully simple — until the editor divides your window into source on one side and a preview on the other.

One side is what you write. The other is what you are supposed to read.

Concept Writer removes that divide.

Write a heading, leave the line, see the heading. Click it, see the Markdown. What you save is always a real .md file — in your library, in iCloud, or right where you opened it.

The Markdown Appears When You Need It

Type ## Project Notes and move to the next line. The Markdown markers disappear, and the line becomes a properly formatted heading.

Click the heading again, and the original Markdown returns.

The same happens with lists, quotes, links, emphasis, code, and horizontal rules. The line you are editing shows its Markdown syntax. Everywhere else, Concept Writer presents the formatted result.

There is no separate preview and no need to switch between editing and reading modes.

Images Belong in the Document

Concept Writer also displays images directly inside your Markdown document.

Paste or drag an image into a library note and it is stored in an accompanying assets folder. The document itself contains a normal Markdown image reference, keeping the relationship transparent and portable.

Move away from the image line and you see the image. Click the line and you see its Markdown.

For external files, Concept Writer can display images referenced through HTTPS URLs. Preview size can be adjusted in the settings without changing the original image or its Markdown reference.

Your File Remains the Source of Truth

Many writing apps make Markdown available only as an export option. Your actual document lives inside the app, and you receive a .md file only when you ask for one.

Concept Writer works differently.

The text in the editor is the Markdown stored on disk. Formatting is applied visually without removing or replacing its syntax. Open the file in another editor, put it into Git, publish it on the web, or process it with your own tools — it remains an ordinary, portable text file.

Your Notes and Your Existing Files

Concept Writer includes a document library for notes, drafts, and ideas. The library can optionally sync through iCloud, keeping your writing available across your Macs.

But not every Markdown file belongs inside an app library.

You can also open an existing .md file from anywhere on your Mac and edit it in place. Concept Writer does not import it into a private database or quietly create another copy. The file stays exactly where you put it.

Concept Writer provides formatting controls, Find and Replace, a built-in Markdown reference, optional document and help sidebars, image previews, and an uncluttered full-width writing view.

Use the library when you want an organized notebook. Hide the sidebars when you simply want to focus on the current document.

The syntax is there whenever you need to edit it — and out of the way when you do not.
