Haunted Repo: A Ghost That Narrates Your Git History with Gemma 3
This is my submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge: Week 4 β "Ghost in the Machine."
What I Built
Haunted Repo is a local-first Python tool that reads a git repository's history and narrates its "ghosts" β forgotten files, unfinished TODOs, deleted files, and abandoned branches β as spooky, funny hauntings generated by Gemma 3 via Ollama, running 100% locally with no cloud API keys.
It outputs a gothic-themed HTML haunting report where each finding gets a "curse level" (1β10) and a short AI-narrated ghost story.
How It Interprets the Theme
The Week 4 theme is "Ghost in the Machine." Haunted Repo literally haunts your codebase:
- Forgotten files β untouched for years, exhumed from git history
- Unfinished promises β TODO/FIXME/HACK comments left behind
- Deleted files β removed but not forgotten
- Abandoned branches β never merged, never touched
Each ghost gets a curse level and a theatrical haunting narrated by Gemma 3.
The Tech
- Python 3.13 β standard library only
- Ollama β runs Gemma 3 locally
-
Git β parses
git log,git grep, git for-each-refto find ghosts - Flask + Gunicorn + Docker β web wrapper for deployment on Render
Why Open Innovation Matters
Running Gemma 3 locally means your code never leaves your machine, works offline, costs nothing, and has no vendor lock-in.
