Introduction
Hello everyone! π
I am working on the Hacktoberfest 2026 Week 3 challenge, βGhost in the Machine.β
For this challenge, I created a beginner-friendly Python project called Ghost File Organizer. It organizes files into categories such as Images, Documents, Videos, Audio, and Others, with a spooky Halloween-inspired terminal experience.
π οΈ Technologies Used
- Python
- Python standard library
- Linux
- Git and GitHub
βοΈ How It Works
- The user enters a folder path.
- The program checks the files in that folder.
- It identifies file types using their extensions.
- It displays the categories and asks for confirmation.
- It moves the files into separate folders.
π» Why I Chose This Project
I wanted to build something useful while learning Python programming and open-source development.
The Halloween theme inspired me to create a file organizer with spooky terminal messages.
π Why Open Innovation Matters
Open-source development gives developers the freedom to inspect, modify, and improve software.
This project runs locally on Linux and does not require a cloud service to organize files. That helps keep file processing on the user's own computer.
I also plan to explore local open-weight AI models to make file categorization more intelligent while maintaining privacy.
π What I Learned
- Python functions
- File handling and directories
- Conditional statements and loops
- Git and GitHub
- Building a beginner-friendly open-source project
π Future Improvements
- Integrate a local open-weight AI model.
- Add a graphical user interface.
- Improve file categorization.
- Add more spooky features.

π Conclusion
Ghost File Organizer combines file management with a Halloween-inspired experience. This project is part of my journey in Python and open-source development.
Happy Hacktoberfest! π»π
