I think with experience comes the capacity to manage and balance any negatives that come with perfectionism, but as far as the benefits go: People with perfectionistic tendencies can absolutely thrive! I think it's a matter of finding the right fit for your approach.
Some programming tasks truly can use a perfectionist, and others not so much. If you know you are a perfectionist, I'd say you should seek out projects which benefit from this.
