This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 4: Ghost in the Machine
What I Built
<!-- What does it do, and how did you interpret the theme? What inspired it? --> Phantom Terminal is a spooky, interactive terminal where users communicate with a mysterious digital ghost through commands. Inspired by the idea of a forgotten consciousness trapped inside a machine, it combines eerie dialogue, glitch effects, hidden clues, and terminal-style interactions to create an immersive experience.

How I Built It
<!-- Which open-source AI did you use (open-weight models, agent harnesses, frameworks, local inference), and how is your project built around it? --> I built Phantom Terminal using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in a single file. It includes a command system, scripted ghost conversations, hidden clues, terminal history, and visual glitch effects.
The current version uses scripted interactions. Integrating an open-weight AI model for dynamic conversations is a planned improvement.
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
<!-- Why does open innovation matter for what you built? What did it make possible that a closed API wouldn't? --> Open innovation allows developers to learn from each other, experiment freely, and build on shared ideas. It makes projects more accessible and encourages collaboration, transparency, and community-driven improvements.

The Spirit of It
<!-- Optional, but this is where you can make your post stand out. Did it give someone chills, bring back a memory, or keep a story alive? Show us the moment it landed. If not, remove this section. --> What if a machine remembered something that everyone else had forgotten?
Phantom Terminal explores this idea through a mysterious digital presence, turning an ordinary terminal into a small interactive horror experience.
