MailTheSecure — I got tired of paying Google Workspace and ProtonMail for something I could build myself.
So I built my own mail server. From scratch.
Postfix for SMTP. Dovecot for IMAP. SpamAssassin + ClamAV for filtering. TLS everywhere. DMARC, DKIM, SPF all configured properly.
Runs on a $5 VPS. Handles my personal and business email. Zero monthly fees.
The hardest part wasn't the setup. It was the reputation. Getting IP warmups right, staying off blacklists, making sure emails actually land in inbox instead of spam.
Took me 3 weekends and a lot of DNS records. But now I own my email. No company scanning it. No sudden price hikes. No account suspension fears.
If you're technical and still paying for email hosting — you're leaving money on the table.
