Spotlight — Built for Lazy People Who Hate Waiting

😴 Spotlight — Built for Lazy People Who Hate Waiting

Let's be honest: sometimes, even opening an application feels like too much work. 😂

Why open the Start Menu, search for an application, and wait for results when you could just type chrome and launch it? Why open a calculator for 125 * 64? And why open a browser, search for a conversion website, and click through multiple pages just to convert 10 km to mile?

And let's talk about Windows Search. Ever searched for a file and felt like you had enough time to make a cup of tea before finding it? ☕

What if your computer could help you find things faster, perform everyday tasks with fewer clicks, and save you from all that unnecessary effort?

That's why I built Spotlight.

Spotlight is a fast, modern, offline-first desktop launcher inspired by macOS Spotlight, Raycast, and Microsoft PowerToys Run. It brings application launching, file search, calculations, unit and currency conversions, weather, URL launching, and terminal commands into one unified search interface.

Just press Ctrl + Shift + Space, type what you need, and get on with your life.

No hunting through menus. No opening five different tools for five simple tasks. And less waiting around when all you want is to find a file or launch an application.

⚡ Less Waiting, Fewer Clicks, More Laziness

Spotlight is designed to make everyday desktop interactions feel faster and more convenient through:

  • Indexed file search: Find files using an existing search index.
  • Incremental searching: See results update as you type.
  • Cached search data: Make repeated searches more responsive.
  • Smart result ranking: Prioritize exact matches, frequently launched applications, previous usage, and relevance.
  • One unified search bar: Launch apps, locate files, calculate values, convert units, and perform other tasks without switching between separate tools.

Unlike a workflow that requires navigating through multiple menus and applications, Spotlight aims to get you to the result with fewer steps. Its actual search speed depends on the query, index state, hardware, and Windows Search configuration.

The philosophy is simple: your computer should spend less time making you wait, so you can spend less time making your computer work.

🦥 The Lazy User's Superpowers

  • Too lazy to find an app? Type vscode.
  • Too lazy to open a calculator? Type 999 * 99.
  • Too lazy to visit a conversion website? Type 10 km to mile.
  • Too lazy to search through folders? Type resume.
  • Too lazy to open another app for weather? Type weather in delhi.
  • Too lazy to open a browser first? Type github.com.
  • Too lazy to remember every command? Ghost suggestions help predict what you're searching for.
  • Too lazy to use your mouse for everything? Navigate results and actions using your keyboard.

If you consider three extra clicks a personal inconvenience, congratulations — Spotlight was built with you in mind. 🚀
