My own entry into the programming world led to my developing The Field Guide to Common Nerds, among other talks and articles. I now share those experiences with the interns I mentor at MousePaw Media.

However, I would state that while you can learn a lot from a mentor, NOTHING will prevent you from needing to put in ten years of work to gain ten years experience. You still have to do the work, no matter how much guidance you have. You just don't have to make the same mistakes.
