Every withdrawal tutorial tells you "double-check the network." Almost none tell you what to do when you've already picked the wrong one — and fewer still explain that the fear is mostly misplaced.
Here's the part that actually matters: ERC20 and BEP20 both use 0x Ethereum-style addresses, and the same seed phrase produces the same address on every EVM chain. Send USDT from Binance to your MetaMask on the wrong chain, and the funds aren't gone — they're sitting on the other ledger. Switch networks in your wallet and there they are.
The rule that prevents 90% of accidents
The receiving side picks the chain, not your fee preferences.
- To a self-custody wallet (MetaMask, Rabby)? Any chain works — the 0x address is valid on all EVM chains. Pick BEP20: fees usually under 1 USDT, arrival in minutes. (Just carry a little BNB for gas.)
- To another exchange's deposit address? Use exactly a network the receiver lists. Binance's own academy says tokens deposited via the wrong network may not be retrievable.
- Got an address with no network named? Ask before sending. A T-address (TRON) and a 0x address are different address systems — mixing them is the genuinely unrecoverable case.

Key takeaway
Most "wrong network" sends to your own wallet are a false alarm — switch networks and the funds appear. The dangerous cases are cross-platform sends to networks the receiver doesn't list, and cross-address-system sends. A ten-second format check and a small test transfer are always cheaper than a support ticket. Fee figures verified against Binance's withdrawal documentation, August 2026.
