Top 10 CLI Tools to Level-Up Claude Code

Shrijal Acharya on April 06, 2026

I've been using Claude Code more than any other AI agents recently. And when it's the tool you use the most, it just makes sense to make that work...

you missed one - or maybe two - qsv, jq and tennis. Oh they are 3 now. expected at least two of them to be in the list.

However, still a great list anyway.

I haven’t heard of or used qsv or tennis. But I do have jq installed, which I first learned about through Primeagen streams. Thanks for mentioning it, Deb :)

I think the tool is supposed to be exa. that's the replacement to ls in linux

You're correct. But exa is no longer maintained. eza is the maintained fork of eza. hope that helps

zoxide

crates.io Downloads Built with Nix

zoxide is a smarter cd command, inspired by z and autojump.

It remembers which directories you use most frequently, so you can "jump" to them in just a few keystrokes.
zoxide works on all major shells.

Tutorial

z foo # cd into highest ranked directory matching foo
z foo bar # cd into highest ranked directory matching foo and bar
z foo / # cd into a subdirectory starting with foo
z ~/foo # z also works like a regular cd command
z foo/ # cd into relative path
z .. # cd one level up
z - # cd into previous directory

Zoxide is top notch. I use it like a cd replacement most of the time. Not fully replacing cd the way the docs suggest, but yeah, I end up using z for most of the time anyway

I didn’t give it a full section though, just mentioned it in the “A few more nice ones” bit with fd, yazi, bat, and the rest. Thanks Athreya, good call on that 🙌
