How to bridge tokens before swapping on Fantom

Bridge the asset first, then swap it on the chain where the pool lives.

A wallet can show the same token on several networks, but those are separate balances. If Fantom Opera is your destination and its pool has the token you want, use SpookySwap token swaps after the bridge finishes to trade there.

Why do you need to bridge first?

A bridge moves tokens between blockchains. A swap trades one token for another on a single blockchain, so a token sitting on Ethereum cannot be spent in a Fantom Opera pool until it reaches that network.

Think of chains as separate payment systems: the same wallet address can work on both, but money on one system does not appear on the other by itself. A bridge route may lock your original tokens and release or create a matching version on the destination chain.

The token versions may have different names. For example, USDC.e on Fantom Opera is a bridged version, not automatically the same asset as every token labelled USDC. Before moving funds, check that the destination pool accepts the exact token version the bridge will deliver.

How do you move the asset to the right chain?

  1. Step 1: Pick the destination and token. Open the swap screen on the destination network and check which token pair is available. For example, if the pool is USDC.e to BOO on Fantom Opera, your bridge must deliver USDC.e there.
  2. Step 2: Check the bridge route. Choose your current network as the source and Fantom Opera as the destination. Select the asset and amount, then read the quote: it should show the expected amount, estimated wait, and any bridge fee. Routes and fees vary, so compare the amount received rather than assuming a fixed charge.
  3. Step 3: Keep gas money on both sides. Gas is the network fee for processing a transaction. You usually need the source chain’s gas token to start the bridge, and a little FTM on Fantom Opera to make the later swap; some bridge routes may handle destination gas for you, so check the quote.
  4. Step 4: Send a small test if the amount matters. A test costs extra in fees, but it checks that the route, wallet, and token version work as expected. Confirm the destination network and wallet address before approving the bridge.
  5. Step 5: Wait for delivery. Approve the token if your wallet requests it, then confirm the bridge transaction. A completed source transaction does not always mean the destination transfer is complete; follow the bridge status until the funds appear on Fantom Opera.

How do you swap after the bridge?

  1. Step 6: Switch your wallet network. Select Fantom Opera in your wallet and check that the bridged token appears. If it does not, verify the bridge’s destination transaction and token details before doing anything else.
  2. Step 7: Review and confirm the swap. On SpookySwap, choose the token you received and the token you want. The preview estimates the output; price impact means the pool’s price may move against you, especially for a large trade or a shallow pool. Check the fee, minimum output, and any token approval request before signing.

For example, bridge around $50 of a supported stablecoin to Fantom Opera, leave enough FTM for gas, then swap only after the correct bridged token arrives. The route is ready when your destination wallet holds the exact asset the pool accepts.
