The $0 Tool Stack That Runs My Entire Business
I used to think building a business required expensive software subscriptions. Turns out, I was wrong.
After years of testing and refining, I've built a complete business infrastructure using only free tools. Not free trials. Not "freemium with limits." Actually free.
Here's my complete $0 tool stack:

- Obsidian: Personal knowledge management
☁️ Storage & Files

🎨 Design & Media

- GIMP: Photo editing
- DaVinci Resolve: Video editing
🛠️ Development & Automation
- VS Code: Code editor
- Replit: Cloud coding environment
- Zapier: 100 free tasks/month automation
- GitHub Actions: CI/CD pipelines
🔍 Research & Learning
- ChatGPT: AI assistance (free tier)

💰 Finance & Admin
- Wave: Free invoicing and accounting
- Google Sheets: Budget tracking
- Google Calendar: Scheduling
The Truth About "Free"
Here's what nobody tells you: the best tools are free because they have to be.
Open-source projects compete on merit. Community-funded tools prioritize users over shareholders. And freemium models let you grow before paying.
My Monthly Savings
If I paid for equivalent premium tools:
- Email: $6/month
- Storage: $10/month
- Design: $13/month
- Project Management: $10/month
- Automation: $20/month
- Total: $59/month = $708/year
Current spend: $0
When to Upgrade
I'm not saying never pay for tools. I'm saying be intentional.
Upgrade when:
- You hit real limits (not artificial ones)
- The paid feature directly generates revenue
- The time saved exceeds the cost
