Moving funds to repay a Polygon PoS loan means bridging the repayment token onto Polygon before the loan’s due time. The key condition is that the loan’s token, amount, and deadline must match what reaches your wallet.
What must arrive before the deadline?
Check the loan’s market for its repayment token, current amount due, and exact maturity time. Interest may accrue until repayment lands, so leave room for a small increase. For example, if you owe 493 USDC, bridge enough to cover that amount plus any interest and fees.
Polygon Bridge moves supported tokens from Ethereum to Polygon PoS. The bridge locks tokens on Ethereum and releases matching tokens on Polygon; Ethereum gas and Polygon gas may both apply. For timing and fee estimates, see how long Polygon Bridge deposits take; start early enough to handle delays and still repay before maturity.
Steps to get the repayment there
- Confirm the debt details. Open the lending app and check the loan’s maturity, repayment token, and live payoff amount. Make sure the debt is on Polygon PoS and note the wallet address that holds it.
- Check where your funds are. If the repayment token is already in that wallet on Polygon, you can skip bridging. If it is on Ethereum, confirm the token is the same one the loan accepts; matching symbols alone do not prove that.
- Bridge enough of the correct token. Use Polygon Portal to move the supported asset from Ethereum to Polygon PoS. An ERC-20 token is a common token type; its first transfer may require an approval, which lets the bridge contract use the stated amount. Check the destination address before confirming.
- Keep gas for both transactions. Ethereum gas pays for the approval or deposit. On Polygon PoS, POL is the native token used for transaction fees, so keep some in your wallet for repayment. A common mistake is bridging every last dollar as USDC, then having no POL to submit the repayment; bridge or obtain a small gas reserve first.
- Repay and verify. Once the tokens arrive, repay the amount shown by the app, then confirm the debt is cleared or reduced on Polygon. Save the transaction record and check the app’s maturity status.
What if the bridge arrives late?
Bridge time and Ethereum gas costs vary with network conditions. The deciding factor is the loan’s own maturity rule: a transaction submitted before the deadline may still need to be confirmed on-chain before the app counts it as paid. Leave a buffer for the bridge deposit and the separate repayment transaction.
Polygon’s PoS bridge documentation describes the lock-and-release process, while Ethereum’s ERC-20 documentation explains token approvals. I’d check the debt balance again just before repaying, since interest or a partial payment can change the amount due.
Bridge early, keep POL for gas, and verify repayment before maturity.
