Hey NaveenKumar! Great questions!

This is recurring (meaning we are constantly looking for volunteers). There isn't an end date to it as far as I know.

The main thing is that you will be working in a small group of developers and tackle on bugs and features listed on GitHub. We do weekly meetings to discuss our progression.

Pretty simple and nothing too complex. Hope this helps!

Hi FrancisTRᴅᴇᴠ,

I came across your post about CALEC and wanted to reach out because the mission genuinely caught my attention. Using technology to improve education and make learning more accessible is something I would love to be a part of.

I'm a Full-Stack Engineer and have spent the last several years building web and AI applications with Python, TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, FastAPI, MongoDB, Docker, AWS, and Git/GitHub. Some of my favorite projects have included AI assistants, RAG systems, document intelligence tools, and multi-agent applications.

Outside of coding, I enjoy taking ownership of my work and contributing wherever I can help. I'm comfortable working independently, learning new technologies quickly, and collaborating with teams in fast-moving environments. I also appreciate working on projects that have a meaningful impact beyond just shipping features.

CALEC's focus on language education and equitable access to learning really stands out to me. It's exciting to see a team building something that can positively affect people around the world, and I'd love the opportunity to contribute to that vision.

I'm able to commit 10+ hours per week and would be happy to chat further about how I can support the team as you work toward the Phase 1 release.

Thanks for sharing this opportunity, and I hope we get a chance to connect soon!

Best,

Larry Margerum

Hey Francis,

Hope you're having a great weekend! I applied for the position and was excited to hear back—I’ve been invited to a Google Meet interview.

I really want to do well and make a strong impression. You've been through this process before, so I was wondering if you might have any advice on how to prepare or what the team tends to look for during interviews.

Any tips or insights would mean a lot and would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, and I hope the rest of your weekend goes well!

Thanks Larry! I would say present yourself in a best way for the org. It's casual, so I would not need to worry since this is a volunteer role after all. Make sure you understand your resume and your work (which makes sense) because we will be questioning your work.

Other than that, do your best :D

Hi @francistrdev

Thank you for posting this because I was immediately drawn to CALEC's mission of using technology to make education more accessible. As a Software Development Engineer at Dentira, I've spent the last two years building scalable backend systems and full-stack web applications, working extensively with APIs, databases, and cloud technologies.

I'm excited by the opportunity to apply my engineering experience to educational technology while collaborating with a mission-driven team. The prospect of contributing to Ri2L and building accessible learning experiences for multilingual communities is particularly inspiring, and I'd love to be part of that journey.

I'm happy to commit 10+ hours per week and would be grateful for the opportunity to contribute. I've also submitted my application and look forward to connecting with the team.

Thank you for sharing this opportunity!

Best,

I applied! CALEC looks like such a great organization, and I would love to continue my web development learning path while volunteering to support CALEC's mission. I included my professional Github and website links in my application. Feel free to take a look at my DEV.to posts (writing a new post today!), my learning Github and my Neocities site.

Glad to see this opportunity getting its own post, Francis!

I also shared CALEC as a Community Find in Edition #6 after you first mentioned it, so it's great to see it getting even more visibility. I think one person from the community had already applied, which was really nice to hear.

Hopefully this post reaches even more people and helps you find some great volunteers. Wishing you and the CALEC team all the best with Phase 1!

I actually included it in Dev Opportunity Radar #8. I tagged you, added a link to your DEV post, and mentioned it alongside the original CALEC opportunity so readers who are interested in the Full-Stack Developer volunteer role can check it out.

Thanks again for sharing the opportunity with the community.

Love seeing the DEV community rally around a mission-driven cause like bilingual literacy. Volunteer roles like this are underrated for skill growth. You get to ship real features in a small team, stay accountable to weekly syncs, and contribute to something that outlasts a sprint cycle. The fact that CALEC values initiative over a perfect resume checklist says a lot about the team culture. This is exactly the kind of opportunity-matching problem I was trying to solve with Opportunity Skill. Helping the right developers find the right causes without relying on keyword searches or manual scrolling. Good luck with Phase 1, Francis!
