This is exactly the problem I'm having with the Microsoft RDP iPad app and my Ubuntu 24.04 desktop. Unfortunately, the iPad app has no feature to import/export configurations, so it looks like I'm out of luck. I considered changing the default system display from :0 to :1, but it's a lot more difficult to do that today than it was 35 years ago with X11R3.
I'll assume that Microsoft intentionally made their app non-interoperable with Linux, because that's the sort of thing they've always done.
I suspect that it's actually Ubuntu or GNOME's implementation of RDP that's the issue. It's possible that they are using OpenRDP or another open source RDP solution which doesn't work 1-to-1 with Windows RDP, hence requiring the redirection that we set as true in this guide.
