Singapore's Copyright Act includes "fair dealing" provisions that let students use copyrighted material for research and private study — but there's a limit.
What you CAN do under fair dealing:
✅ Copy a chapter from a book or an article from a journal for your own study
✅ Use short excerpts with proper attribution in assignments
✅ Access NTU Library's subscribed databases for coursework
What you MUST avoid:
❌ Sharing full pirated PDFs with classmates
❌ Reproducing substantial portions without permission
❌ Using images or music in presentations without licensing
NTU Library's Ask-a-Librarian service can help you determine if your use qualifies as fair dealing. When in doubt — ask! https://library.ntu.edu.sg
Stay within the law. Your future self will thank you.
