My current experience with the change is that being a web developer is more about using libraries and frameworks while programming in the game industry is a lot about designing your own solutions, even though there is as well a lot of libraries you need to use.
To me, the change means less use of our creativity and ingenuity. It is pretty deceiving when we are used to design systems by ourselves and expect them to work like a charm in the end, but then we become plumbers which spend our days yelling at the bad quality pipes which we are supposed to use.
