🎯 Azure Certification Role Map: Path to Mastery

1. Cloud Beginner / Developer / IT Pro

Goal: Build foundational knowledge & start hands-on Azure.

  • AZ-900: Microsoft Azure Fundamentals
    What you learn: Cloud concepts, core Azure services, pricing, security basics.
    Why: Perfect starting point for any Azure role.

  • AZ-204: Developing Solutions for Microsoft Azure
    What you learn: Developing cloud apps & services with Azure SDKs, storage, compute, security, messaging.
    Role: Azure Developer.


2. Azure Administrator / Operations Engineer

Goal: Manage and operate Azure infrastructure.

  • AZ-104: Microsoft Azure Administrator
    What you learn: Managing Azure identities, governance, storage, compute, virtual networking, monitoring.
    Role: Azure Administrator, Cloud Operations Engineer.

  • AZ-500: Microsoft Azure Security Technologies (Optional but recommended)
    What you learn: Secure Azure workloads, identity management, platform protection.
    Role: Security-focused admins or engineers.


3. Azure Solutions Architect

Goal: Design scalable, secure cloud solutions.

  • AZ-305: Designing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions What you learn: Design compute, network, storage, security, apps, and infrastructure solutions. Prerequisite: Recommended to have AZ-104 or AZ-204 first. Role: Azure Solutions Architect.

4. Azure DevOps Engineer

Goal: Automate and streamline cloud app delivery.

  • AZ-400: Designing and Implementing Microsoft DevOps Solutions What you learn: DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, configuration management, monitoring. Role: DevOps Engineer.

5. Azure Data Engineer / AI Specialist

For data-focused roles:

  • DP-900: Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals (start here)
  • DP-203: Data Engineering on Microsoft Azure
  • AI-102: Designing and Implementing an Azure AI Solution

6. Advanced & Specialty Certifications

  • AZ-700: Designing and Implementing Microsoft Azure Networking Solutions
  • AZ-600: Configuring and Operating a Hybrid Cloud with Microsoft Azure Stack Hub
  • AZ-220: Microsoft Azure IoT Developer
  • SC-900: Microsoft Security, Compliance, and Identity Fundamentals
