LLCC68 Brings Cost-Effective LoRa to 433/470 MHz

In scaled LPWAN deployments, the Sub-1G band remains the mainstay of long-range, low-power communication thanks to excellent penetration and diffraction. And the 433 MHz / 470 MHz bands - the most widely used license-free ISM spectrum in China and worldwide - carry massive connectivity demand from smart metering, industrial sensing and home security. EBYTE's E220-400T series, built on Semtech's new-generation LLCC68 LoRa RF chip, spans a complete product gradient from a 22 dBm standard type to a 30 dBm enhanced type, offering a highly cost-effective UART serial solution. This article covers the E220P-400T22S, E220-400T22S, E220-400T22D, E220-400T30D, E220-400TBL-SC, E220-400TBH-SC and E220-900TBL-SC.
Product Overview: What Is LLCC68?

LLCC68 is Semtech's brand-new LoRa RF chip using LoRa spread-spectrum modulation with spreading factors SF5 to SF11. Versus the previous SX1276 generation it offers significantly lower power, higher speed and longer range. Configurable spreading factors and receive bandwidths: SF5-SF9 at BW = 125 kHz, SF5-SF10 at 250 kHz, SF5-SF11 at 500 kHz.

The E220-400T series is a self-developed wireless serial (UART) module based on the LLCC68, operating in the 410.125 - 493.125 MHz band (433.125 MHz default) with TTL-level output compatible with both 3.3 V and 5 V IO. The modules integrate an LNA and an active temperature-compensated crystal, and support air wakeup, carrier sensing (Listen Before Talk), communication keys, packet length settings and custom development services.
Key Features and Model Comparison

Long range with strong interference immunity: new-generation LoRa spread-spectrum reaches 5 - 7 km under ideal conditions with far better interference rejection.

Active crystal, stable across temperatures: models such as the E220P-400T22S add an active TCXO (plus-or-minus 1 PPM) and a receiving limiter, ensuring reliable communication in both high- and low-temperature conditions.

Low-power design: deep sleep draws only about 3.5 uA - ideal for battery-powered solutions.

Multiple transmission modes: fixed-point, broadcast and channel monitoring, with LBT support to listen for channel noise before transmitting.

Parameter retention after power-off: modules resume with saved settings on re-power, paired with an efficient watchdog that auto-restarts on exceptions.

Rich package options: the S series is SMD (16 x 26 mm, IPEX/stamp-hole RF interface), the D series is DIP (21 x 36 mm, SMA-K antenna), and the TBH/TBL test kits enable rapid evaluation.

In short: the E220P-400T22S is the RF-enhanced type - its built-in LNA and active TCXO push ideal range to 7 km versus 5.6 km for the standard E220-400T22S; the E220-400T30D, with 30 dBm output, reaches a 10 km test distance for long-range backbone links; and the E220-400TBL-SC / E220-400TBH-SC are companion test kits for small-power and high-power modules respectively, enabling quick performance validation.

FAQ

Q: How is LLCC68 different from SX1268?

A: LLCC68 is Semtech's new-generation LoRa RF chip like the SX1268, but with spreading factors limited to SF5-SF11 (SF5-SF9 at 125 kHz BW, SF5-SF10 at 250 kHz, SF5-SF11 at 500 kHz) - a cost-optimized choice that still outperforms the previous SX1276 in power, speed and range.

Q: E220P-400T22S vs E220-400T22S: what does the P add?

A: The P variant is RF-enhanced: it integrates a low-noise amplifier (LNA), an active temperature-compensated crystal (plus-or-minus 1 PPM) and a receiving limiter, extending ideal range to 7 km versus about 5.6 km for the standard model, and ensuring stable communication at temperature extremes.

Q: What is the difference between the S, D and TBx variants?

A: S models are SMD modules (16 x 26 mm, IPEX/stamp-hole RF interface), D models are DIP modules (21 x 36 mm for T22D, 20 x 40.5 mm for T30D, with SMA-K antenna), and the TBL-SC/TBH-SC are test kits (small-power and high-power versions, plus a 900 MHz variant) for quick performance evaluation.
