At the moment we're hiring. We're a small team of devs (2!) and do a lot of consulting. Generally our devs have to be full stack apt in both frontend and backend so we're able to switch in and help each other. I don't think stack matters too much but due to the projects we take on certain languages are favourable. The test is in java but it's really testing knowledge of dep injection and coding practice for OO languages. We've had a few applicants' stack that doesn't "fit" but they've mentioned they're happy (and want to) move away from their current stack and we've considered them.
For an employee.. I can't say it matters too much. You might not get a job at picky companies but there'll definitely be someone else that will.
