1. Introduce yourself. Why are you taking this course? What is it about Open Source that attracted you?

Hello, I am Hyunjin.
I am currently studying Computer Programming and Analysis at Seneca College, and I am on my last semester(6th).

There are several reasons why I chose this course.

  • First, last semester I took CCP course, and I learned a lot and I really enjoyed it (it was tough, though). So, I was like "I am going to take whatever David Humphrey offers."

  • Second, although I've been using git/github for around 2 years, I still feel uncomfortable with it. Every time I work with git/github, I am kind of nervous and worried that I might accidentally mess up things, especially when I am working with a team. So, I wanted to be more confident and comfortable with git.

  • Third, although I have been studying computer programming for more than 2 years, I think my programming ability is still far under the real programmers' level who are currently working in the field. I don't even know how big the gap is between me and the real programmers. So, I want to know how good they are and how much effort should I put in.

2. What are you hoping to accomplish this term? What kinds of projects do you want to work on?

  • I want to be confident and comfortable with git, this is my primary goal for this term and this course such as contributing, pulling, pushing, branching and all the confusing stuff in a situation where many people work together.
  • I want to work on a project that's a bit practical or enjoyable in a daily life, using python or javascript.

3. What was the the GitHub trending repo you researched above?

Provide a link and tell us about it. Why did you pick it?

https://github.com/sherlock-project/sherlock.

  • This looked fun. When you enter a username, it gives you all the SNS accounts(URL) that are using the username. People usually use the same username for many different websites or accounts unless it is already being used. You can use this program to know what SNS of which you have an account, or you can search what SNS your friends are using. This project is kind of the project that I want to work on and make.
