A Practical QA Protocol for Removing Stickers From Reflective Product Photos

AI can remove a sticker from reflective product packaging, but the result is convincing only when highlights, printed edges, material texture, and the product silhouette remain continuous.

Why reflective packaging is difficult

A glossy pouch, bottle, or box contains specular highlights: bright shapes that follow the surface and lighting. When a sticker interrupts one of those shapes, the editor must reconstruct both the packaging and the highlight. A plausible fill can still look wrong if the highlight bends, ends abruptly, or changes width.

Reproducible QA protocol

1. Start with the least-compressed source

2. Mask the sticker, not the whole package face

A tight selection preserves more real information. Include the sticker edge and shadow, but avoid painting across intact highlights, logos, seams, or typography.

3. Trace four structures through the repaired area

  • Highlight path: direction, width, and brightness
  • Package geometry: silhouette, fold, seam, and perspective
  • Surface texture: grain, gloss, and noise
  • Printed design: lines, repeated patterns, and letter spacing

4. Compare at two scales

At 100% zoom, look for halos, repeated texture, and broken print. At normal size, judge whether the repair fits the whole product.

5. Reject invented commercial details

AI reconstruction is not recovery. Do not accept generated ingredients, barcodes, certification marks, prices, or claims as if they were present in the original.
