Don't Send That — An AI Pause Button for Messages You Might Regret
This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Weekend Challenge: Build for a Friend
What I Built
I built Don't Send That, an AI-powered pause button for messages you might regret sending.
We've all had moments where we're angry, frustrated, or emotional and type something that we later wish we had worded differently.
The problem isn't always what we want to say — sometimes it's how we say it in the moment.
So I built a tool that creates a small pause between emotion and action.
A user can enter a message, and Don't Send That analyzes:
- Emotion
- Emotional intensity
- Tone
- Intent
- Communication risk
- Possible triggers
After analyzing the message, the app asks the user what they actually want to achieve with it.
Based on their goal, the AI generates three different versions:
- Calm — de-escalates the message while preserving the actual meaning.
- Firm — communicates the boundary clearly without unnecessary aggression.
- Direct — keeps the message straightforward and strong.
The user can then compare the original message with the rewritten versions and see how the estimated communication risk changes.
The app also uses ElevenLabs to generate voice versions of the rewritten messages, allowing the user to hear how each version sounds before deciding what to send.
The idea is simple:
Pause. Think. Say what you actually mean.
