As a beginner in data science (still migrating from 5 years of programming) I am actually feeling what you described, specially considering the amount of different areas data science covers, it's frightening on it's own, let alone the "Jedi" requirements people are asking for positions.

I can vouch for the point you make about Kind Experts, since that's how I started leaving my java developer career to go for data analysis (at that time I didn't even know the term "data scientist").
