Contributing to Open Source
What do you mean? If you have interest in contributing to a project, why wouldn't you just contribute if you have something value to add?
I understand his doubt, it's not about "I know an interesting project and want to contribute", but actually getting to know projects in order to contribute to them.
I've been asked that question a lot by people I've helped and my lack of direct involvement with the open source community led to a sad "I don't know".
For instance, as Aaroh mentioned in his post, there are a few tags used in projects that help you find your first project to contribute, a very simple thing that helps a lot.
Look up for all the "Who's looking for open source contributors?" posts here in Dev.to. There are many editions.
