With the successful completion of our performance-focused Phase 1, the foundation for NextBlock CMS is set. It’s fast, it’s modern, and it’s ready for the next evolution. Today, we are officially kicking off Phase 2 of our 100-Day Roadmap, and this phase is all about you: the developers who build with it and the content creators who use it every day.
Our goal for the next 25 days is to drastically enhance the core user and developer experience, transforming NextBlock from a fast CMS into the best CMS to work with.
What to Expect in Phase 2: Rich Editor & Superior DX
We're shifting our focus to a suite of powerful features that will make building and managing content more flexible and intuitive than ever before.
A Notion-like Block Editor: We're significantly upgrading our Tiptap-based block editor. Expect more powerful inline content widgets and custom block layouts, giving you the freedom to create rich, dynamic pages with ease.
A Smarter Media Library: We're bringing structure to the media library. We’ll be implementing folders and/or tagging functionality, complete with image previews and bulk actions, to make asset management scalable and efficient.
A Robust Developer Experience (DX):
Monorepo Transition: We are transitioning the project to a monorepo structure using Nx or Turborepo, making the codebase more modular and scalable for future plugin development.
Theming System: We're implementing a theme system that separates content from presentation, allowing you to create and swap theme packages with ease.
CLI & Starter Kits: To streamline developer onboarding, we'll be creating a create-nextblock CLI tool and providing project templates like a blog or documentation starter.
Block SDK: We will be formalizing and documenting a Block SDK with TypeScript types, making it simple for developers to extend NextBlock with their own custom blocks.
Phase 1 was about the engine. Phase 2 is about the driver's seat. We're building the tools you need to create amazing things, faster and more enjoyably.
Stay tuned for frequent updates as these features come to life. We can't wait to show you what's next!
