I know this is an old post but I'm sort of in a mid life crisis and came across your post. I'm in my late 30s and have a good career as a nurse practitioner but have always wondered if I should've done programming instead. I took a course in programming in high school and did well and was going to major in CS in college but I changed course and did nursing instead. I still love technology and learning new systems. Is there a need for a nurse practitioner who can program. Should I go back to school to pick up a programming cert? Or is this just a lateral salary move? Are there even any careers out there that would want a NP and a software engineer?
