This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle
What I Built
Built for Hacktoberfest Week 2 (Side Hustle). A small CLI that uses a local open-weight model via Ollama to generate freelance quotes.
Takes a few inputs (client, description, hours, rate, timeline, currency) and outputs a simple Markdown quote. Runs entirely locally with Ollama, so client info stays on the machine.

🎯 Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge: Week 2
This project was built for the Hacktoberfest Week 2: Side Hustle challenge. The theme is to build something with open-weight models or open-source AI that someone would actually pay for.
Why open innovation matters
- Privacy-first: Client project details, hours, and rates never leave your laptop
- Zero costs: Once you have a model running locally, there are no API charges - critical for maintaining profit margins on a side hustle
- No vendor lock-in: Swap between any open-weight model (Llama, Qwen, Gemma, etc.) with a simple flag
- Offline capable: Works without internet connectivity
- Transparent & auditable…
How I Built It
- Python CLI (
quotely/cli.py,quotely/generator.py,quotely/formatter.py) - Uses Ollama's
/api/generatewiththink: falsefor reasoning models - Defaults to
qwen3.5:4b; any local model should work
Setup
pip install -r requirements.txt
ollama pull qwen3.5:4b
Usage
python3 quotely.py --client "Client" --description "Work" --hours 4 --rate 60
Why Does Open Innovation Matter?
Running locally keeps costs at zero and avoids sending client details to third-party APIs. It also avoids being tied to a specific vendor's pricing.
