I think one of the problems with jsdoc is that they are too easy for them not to be updated and forgotten about. I prefer the typescript way of just not compiling and telling you that you have done something wrong. But yes I agree at the end of the day you don't need typescript, its just a way to document your variable types and you could just use js as it adds complexity
