There's no similarity between the two. PHP can be used to write very clean and performant server code, in the right hands. Unless you need the performance of something like Go, or prefer to write server code using js via something like node, then well written PHP7 code is a good solution. JQuery is not in the same position as PHP... It's simply obsolete and unnecessary, and encourages bad habits.
