Will (Mr_Tib)

Hi everyone, my name is William. My wife recommended I join this community, she's a back end developer at a financial institution. I'm looking forward to entering the cyber security field, hopefully as an analyst.

Currently I work for North America's largest locomotive manufacturer as a painter. Basically I make the Locomotive pretty and shiny for a couple days until the customer takes them down the track. 2 days later they look rough and dirty like you generally see them. It is not rewarding work, and it's extremely labor intensive. So much so that I injured myself on the job last year. My doctors have told me that I will be very prone to re-injury if I continue at my current employer, which has led to the very scary(yet exciting) choice to start switching careers at the age 35.

My very first "coding" experience was MySpace. The thought that I was able to express myself differently than others on such a wide spread platform was mind blowing to me and it was easy enough for me to pick up and understand what was needed to change things. Over the many years since, i've developed several websites and forums dedicated to games I played and communities I was involved in, but nothing groundbreaking or worth note -- mostly fan sites.

My current situation has me enrolled in a couple infosec courses at my local community college that will hopefully prepare me to get compTIA Security+ certification. Aside from that, I've been brushing up on my html, php, and css, but also have started to familiarize myself with sql and javascript. Without formal schooling I know I will be at a disadvantage, but regardless, I'm excited to get my feet wet.
