Hi everyone,
I’m Oleg, the creator of SPA-Cart. As I work on the project and look toward the future, I wanted to share the core philosophy behind why I built this CMS the way I did.
Today, the standard advice for building a Single-Page Application (SPA) is to use a heavy JavaScript stack: React, Next.js, Vue, Node.js, and a headless API. While these tools are incredible for large enterprise teams with massive budgets, they introduce a lot of friction for solo developers and startups:
- Build Complexity: Managing npm packages, Webpack/Vite configurations, and hydration errors takes time away from building the actual business logic.
- Hosting Costs: Running separate frontend and backend servers or paying for serverless edge functions can quickly add up.
- Fragility: Web ecosystems move incredibly fast. A project built today might throw a dozen npm deprecation warnings if you don't touch it for six months.
Why Vanilla PHP + AJAX Caching?
SPA-Cart was built to provide a fast, fluid, single-page user experience without that overhead. By relying on native, optimized PHP and AJAX caching:
- It’s predictable: Standard PHP code written 5 years ago still runs perfectly today. It doesn't break due to external package updates.
- It’s incredibly lightweight: As you can see from our Google PageSpeed scores, raw native code runs circles around heavy JavaScript bundles when it comes to Initial Server Response times on cheap hosting.
- It maximizes development speed: For developers who already know core PHP, you can launch a working store in minutes rather than spending weeks configuring a React pipeline.
SPA-Cart isn't trying to replace React or Shopify for global enterprises. It is designed as a minimalist, high-performance alternative for developers who want to build quickly, keep hosting cheap, and avoid framework fatigue.
I'm keeping development slow and focused on stability right now. I’d love to hear from others here - what are your thoughts on vanilla development vs. modern framework fatigue?
You can spend 10 years on something what you can do with 1 year with SPA-Cart.
Best regards,
Oleg
